Liste no 4 – Autres
Voici une liste nominative des
officiers et militaires du rang du Royal Newfoundland Regiment qui
faisaient partie des effectifs de l’unité en France au moment de la
bataille de Beaumont-Hamel selon les dossiers de l’agent de district du
ministère des Anciens Combattants, St. John’s (Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador).
Ces membres de l’unité ne figurent pas sur les listes nominatives
précédentes, puisqu’ils n’ont pas été blessés ni tués au moment de la
bataille et que rien n’indique qu’ils ont répondu à l’appel. Ils composent
le groupe suivant :
- Les 10 pour cent de réservistes
qui n’ont pas participé à la bataille initiale et qui ont été envoyés en
renfort l’après-midi du premier juillet.
- Les brancardiers, le personnel
responsable du transport et les cuisiniers.
- Les membres de la brigade, des
compagnies de mitrailleuses et d’autres formations supérieures. Ceux-ci
ont peut-être pris part au combat à Beaumont-Hamel, mais n’ont pas été
inscrits sur la liste nominative en raison de leur détachement.
- Un ou deux membres figurant sur la
présente liste nominative étaient peut-être en route vers l’hôpital ou
revenaient peut-être de ce dernier, mais ce nombre est minime. De plus,
un membre a été fait prisonnier de guerre et un autre serait celui qui a
fait l’appel après la bataille, mais celui-ci n’a pas été inscrit sur la
liste nominative.
- Les membres du détachement no 7
qui ont quitté le Royaume-Uni le 29 juin 1916, mais qui n’ont pas été
détachés au régiment avant le 12 juillet 1916 et qui n’ont donc pas été
inscrits sur la liste nominative.
Comme
dans les listes nominatives précédentes, on a ajouté les décorations
reçues lorsque ces renseignements étaient disponibles, les astérisques
indiquent les membres qui ont perdu la vie en service, mais à une date
ultérieure, et dont le grade est le grade le plus élevé atteint pendant le
service. (Pour un ou deux membres figurant sur la présente liste, les
dossiers sont incomplets, mais les meilleurs renseignements disponibles
semblent indiquer qu’ils faisaient partie des effectifs de l’unité au
moment de la bataille.)
